What to expect once starting therapy
Therapy Session Structure
Therapy sessions are structured depending on client need. Some clients prefer a free-form exploration while others prefer a more formal structure with worksheets and book material. A typical session will start with a 15-minute check in on mental health symptoms. Following check-in there will be a discussion about how client is progressing on their identified goals. Clients will be guided in conversation through use of CBT, DBT, or psychodynamic framework. Sessions run 45min to 1 hr.
Interventions Used
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodyanamic therapy are central parts of my work. I also utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as needed. Other interventions I pull from include Solution-Focus Therapy, the Internal Family Systems Model (IFS), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Quantitative Measures
Clients will complete PHQ-9 and GAD-7 standardized assessments for both depression and anxiety symptoms at the start of treatment. Clients will be assessed every 6 weeks to track progress. If needed clients may also complete individualized scaled measures for OCD, body dysmorphia, and PTSD.
Treatment Planning
Once starting therapy clients will chose 1-3 treatment goals to focus on. These goals will help us to remain on track in making progress and gives as a clear sense of direction in our work together.
Qualitative Feedback
Clients are also encouraged to give qualitative feedback throughout the therapeutic process. Feedback is encouraged and welcomed in this environment.
Qualitative progress on therapy goals will be tracked weekly through therapy notes.
